WorkSafe Victoria is a state government body responsible for keeping workplaces safe. Every day, people face the threat of physical and mental injury at work. While the presence of physical danger is quite evident, mental harm and bullying often goes unnoticed and ignored. The idea was to help people reflect on their workplace behaviour and start a conversation about emotional safety that needed to happen in every workplace.

To address this, the "Workplace Reflections" campaign was developed by HERO as a landmark public awareness initiative that redefined the visual language of industrial and emotional safety. The centerpiece of the campaign was an immersive installation consisting of a circle of 64 mirrors erected at the busiest train station in Australia. Within this structure, 16 synchronised, motorised plinths were each programmed to broadcast harrowing, real-life stories of workplace bullying. The design drew individuals into what outwardly appeared to be a beautifully crafted mirrored sculpture, but once inside, they were immersed in the confronting experiences of victims and compelled to consider their own impact on their colleagues.

By forcing viewers to see their own image integrated into this environment while listening to these narratives, HERO successfully moved the concept of safety from an abstract corporate mandate to a deeply personal reality. This visual and auditory metaphor underscored the campaign’s core message: that every workplace is a direct reflection of the individual actions and behaviors of the people within it. Upon exiting the installation, participants were encouraged to take a tangible step toward progress by pledging to change toxic work behaviors and improve their local culture.

As a critical pillar of the broader "Everyone. Every Workplace" initiative, the campaign sought to foster a proactive safety culture across Victoria by emphasizing that the prevention of harm—both physical and psychological—is a shared responsibility. The installation functioned as a psychological catalyst, challenging the "it won’t happen to me" bias and transforming high-level strategic goals into a tangible, lived experience. The campaign was recognised as a benchmark for high-impact advocacy, proving that sophisticated artistic design can effectively drive serious public health outcomes and long-term cultural shifts in the workplace.
