"Rosetta Stoned" from Tool's "10,000 Days" album (2006).
The song that everybody was waiting for. I feel like I have a lot to explain about the song and the video which isn't always a good thing. Ah we'll see. So first things first, there is only one riff in the entire song that I'm not so sure of which is the one at 1:41. I'm pretty sure that there's no delay in this part. Some notes might be off, but they're still in the same scale so it doesn't sound terrible or anything. This is what I heard. There definitely is some delay 1:52 though. Let's skip forward to 2:45 which is quite interesting. So I did not realize that the same thing happened during Right in Two, but Justin apparently likes to scratch his D string, the one on his bass. You just scratch and scratch and release it one beat before the next bar comes. Uuuuh what else.. Oh yeah, the riff at 6:54. So it sounds really difficult, but it's actually pretty easy once you know the pattern. I was terrified at first, but I recorded that whole passage without even looking at the tabs. Now you might think that 8:03 is wrong because it's so different from the tabs you found online, but this is exactly what Justin plays live. Sure he might've played something else in the actual studio song, but you just can't hear it. The bass is often buried in the mix with Tool. 9:30-9:34 is a very good example. I just could not hear what was going on. Even the live videos were just a big mess at that point so I had to improvise a little bit. Justin clearly plays a lot of notes and he kind of follows the drums. Anyway, I don't know how, but my bass sounds a little bit out of tune around 9:30. Thanks drop D.
I thinks that's all I had to say. Good luck and have fun with this song.
