SOLVED: VW Passat Water In Footwells

Описание к видео SOLVED: VW Passat Water In Footwells

This is a video about how to solve the well known issue/problem of wet carpets in the foot wells of a VW Passat B5.5 (mk5.5). Instructions in description.

The issue stems from water collecting below the battery casing due to blocked drains. To fix it is relatively simple but takes a bit of time and manhandling of the battery.

Steps:
Open bonnet (hood)
Remove trim covering the battery and pollen filter
Remove battery connections (negative first) (10mm socket)
Remove battery clip (13mm socket)
Remove battery holder (13mm and 14mm socket)
Clean out the two drain holes of the rubbish that is blocking them (I used a cloth on the end of a screwdriver but be careful not to trash the rubber drain grommet)
Clean out the general area so that there is no silt left to reblock the hole
Put everything back together making sure to connect the positive on the battery before the negative

Once the flooding issue is fixed, to dry the interior I suggest leaving a fan heater in the car pointed at the carpet with the windows slightly open to allow moisture to escape. You should monitor this as there is a small risk of the heater falling over and burning the carpet. Hopefully it hasn't been wet for long enough that it trashes the Comfort Control Module.
