Krampus - Mythology:
Krampus is a mythical creature that originates from Alpine folklore, particularly in regions such as Austria, Bavaria, and parts of Germany. Unlike the benevolent figure of Santa Claus, Krampus is known for being a horned, demonic creature associated with punishing misbehaving children during the Christmas season.

Krampus is typically depicted as a terrifying creature with horns, a fur-covered body, cloven hooves, and a long, pointed tongue. He is often portrayed carrying chains, birch switches, or a bundle of sticks, tools he uses to discipline naughty children.
The legend of Krampus is closely tied to a tradition known as Krampusnacht or Krampus Night, which is celebrated on the evening of December 5th.
This night precedes the feast of St. Nicholas, who rewards well-behaved children with gifts on December 6th.

In some Alpine traditions, St. Nicholas is accompanied by Krampus. While St. Nicholas rewards good children, Krampus is said to punish the naughty ones. During the festivities, men in elaborate Krampus costumes roam the streets, participating in parades and events.

It is said that Krampus might swat or whip misbehaving children with his birch switches. In some versions of the legend, he is also said to carry a sack or basket to carry away particularly naughty children to an unknown fate. The goal is to instill fear and encourage good behavior.

The tradition of Krampus has persisted in Alpine regions for centuries and has gained renewed popularity in recent times. Krampusnacht celebrations include parades, festivals, and events where individuals don Krampus costumes to partake in the festivities.
