[4K] Congo River Rapids at Alton Towers, join us on this water adventure at Alton Towers as we bump, spin and splash our way around Katanga Canyon and take a look around the Katanga Cargo Company Shop

Congo River Rapids is a river rapids ride manufactured by Intamin . The ride first opened in 1986 as Grand Canyon Rapids as part of Aqualand with the entrance located where Mutiny Bay is today. The area was renamed Katanga Canyon and opened up in 1992 and the attraction was renamed Congo River Rapids. The Runaway Mine Train was added to the area at the same time.

The Congo River Rapids passed through a section with waterfalls on each side, but these were switched off in 2017 possibly due to safety issues with people standing up to try and avoid getting wet.

Guest must be at least 1.1m tall to ride Congo River Rapids and if riders under 1.3m must be accompanied by an adult.
