RETURN TO EL ALAMEIN 1987

Out of the hundreds of stories I did while a journalist at Seven News Australia over 10 years from 1980 to 1990, this is perhaps my favourite -- travelling with a group of Australian war veterans to El Alamein in the Western Desert on the 45th anniversary of the decisive World War II battle. In doing so I met an absolute Australian gentleman, Tom Foley, who wanted to return to the battlefield to find the grave of his best mate whom he had buried in a shallow grave after he was killed by shrapnel. Tom and the men who travelled with him back to El Alamein are truly members of Australia's Finest Generation. ‪@rsl_nsw‬ ‪@AustWarMemorial‬
