The nature of desertions in the Indian National Army and factors that determined allegiance and prompted acts of treachery during the partition of India cannot be equated. In the post-WW-II period, poised before an imminent division of the Indian Army on religious grounds, choosing between India and Pakistan was regarded as an honorable choice for the military men. The two scenarios are looked into in a little more detail in the following section.
