🧠 What Is H4 CRT in ICT SMC?

CRT stands for Change of Character + Reversal Template in the ICT Smart Money Concepts (SMC) framework.
When analyzed on the H4 (4-hour) timeframe, it helps identify major swing reversals where institutional order flow shifts from bullish to bearish, or vice versa.

The H4 CRT model focuses on detecting liquidity grabs, BOS (Break of Structure), and displacement, aligning with higher-timeframe bias — often used to catch swing or intraday reversal setups.


⚙️ Core Structure of H4 CRT

A valid H4 CRT setup typically includes:

1. Liquidity Sweep (Judas Swing)

Price takes out previous highs or lows, trapping retail traders.

This is a liquidity raid that initiates a possible reversal.


2. Break of Structure (BOS)

After liquidity is taken, price breaks the internal structure in the opposite direction.

This confirms that order flow has changed.


3. Displacement and Imbalance

A strong impulsive move (displacement) creates an FVG (Fair Value Gap) or Imbalance, showing institutional activity.


4. Retracement to PD Array (Entry Zone)

Price retraces into Premium or Discount zones of the range.

Look for entries inside OB (Order Block) or FVG aligned with your directional bias.


5. Continuation or Reversal Confirmation

The trade confirms once price respects the PD Array and moves toward the target liquidity.


📈 How to Trade the H4 CRT Model

Step 1: Identify the Daily Bias

Use the Daily Timeframe (D1) to determine the main direction (bullish or bearish).

H4 CRT should align with this bias.


Step 2: Spot the Liquidity Grab

On H4, mark previous highs/lows where liquidity rests.

Wait for the market to take out that liquidity with a spike or wick.


Step 3: Wait for BOS Confirmation

After the sweep, watch for a clear H4 BOS in the opposite direction.

This signals the shift in structure.


Step 4: Locate the PD Array Zone

Find the FVG, OB, or Breaker Block created after displacement.

Mark the 50% level (Equilibrium) of the move for potential retracement entry.


Step 5: Refine Entry on Lower Timeframe (M15–M5)

Drop to a lower timeframe to refine your entry:

Look for entry model (e.g., FVG + BOS + OB) inside H4 zone.

This provides precision and tighter stop loss.



Step 6: Set Targets

Target opposite liquidity — previous high/low or external range.

Partial profits can be taken at 1:2 or 1:3 RR and let the rest run to liquidity.

1. Price raids previous H4 high → collects buy-side liquidity.


2. A BOS to downside occurs → confirming reversal.


3. A Fair Value Gap + OB forms on H4 → your entry zone.


4. Retrace into the OB → Enter short.


5. Target → the next sell-side liquidity or discount zone.

Always confirm with Time & Price (e.g., London or New York session).

Use H4 for structure, M15/M5 for precision entries.

Avoid trading CRT setups during high-impact news.

If price doesn’t displace strongly after BOS, skip the setup — institutions aren’t active there.
