Catholic University is at the forefront of medical research, thanks to Dr. Venigalla Rao. As the founder of the University's Bacteriophage Medical Research Center, Dr. Rao is addressing some of the biggest challenges facing humankind including cancer and HIV. His work is not going unnoticed.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse has just awarded Dr. Rao the multi-year, $5 million dollar Avant-Garde Award Program for HIV and Substance Use Disorder Research Grant. This new funding for his research might open the doors for a potential cure for HIV and other genetic diseases.

The road to eradicating a disease that affects 40 million people is not an easy road. However, Dr. Rao is optimistic. He says, “I have no illusion that it will be an easy path to success. I might fail. Nevertheless, if you don’t try, you will definitely fail. I think we have a plausible path."
