How to do Long and Short Division | Maths Tutorials from an Oxford Graduate

Описание к видео How to do Long and Short Division | Maths Tutorials from an Oxford Graduate

Learn how to divide large numbers using long and short division with an Oxford graduate. Long division is a written method used to divide large numbers easily. Short division is a short-cut method to long division and is often the preferred method. However, I would recommend first having a look at how long division works, as this will help you to understand how short division works and a good understanding of the method means that you are less likely to make mistakes when using it.

In this lesson, you will learn how both methods work and how to use them properly, rather than just going through a rote method. This lesson is useful for beginners who have never used the method before or those who can't quite remember the method or never really understood it.

This lesson uses the long and short division methods, leaving a remainder at the end if necessary. To find out what the remainder means and what to do with it, have a look at 'How to divide decimals' (coming soon) .

OxMath tutorials upload maths lessons on all topics at every level so make sure you subscribe for more lessons.

OxMath provides easy to understand maths tutorials for learners, teachers and parents. The lessons are given by an Oxford Graduate with a First class Masters degree in Engineering, a PGCE in Maths and experience as a maths teacher at various schools and FE facilities.

The lessons contain thorough explanations aimed at achieving a comprehensive understanding rather than rote learning. Although you will learn the methods required for school and passing exams, you will also gain knowledge of the underlying theory and how the methods work. This leads to a better understanding of maths in general, a greater ability to apply the maths when required and better grades.

The playlists are sorted by key stage and topic area but not by grade, as OxMath strongly believes that there are no limits to a learners potential and nobody should be put off by a topic's supposed grade. Instead, the videos are linked so you know what previous knowledge is required and where to go next!
