My name is Kirby Talman and I am proud and happy to work with Norton Pediatric Orthopedics, and I do it because I love working with kids and to be a part of the healthcare team and allowing the kids to return back to sports or activities and what the kids love to do.
I was a high school athletic trainer for 11 years prior to going to physician assistant school, and I just love being a part of a team, the comradery, and love athletics and sports. And that's what I feel like peds ortho is. It's a team aspect and we all are working together with the same goal for the kids.
So my patient care philosophy is to work with the patient. I am on their side, on their team, and we are all working towards the common goal. And if there are hiccups and setbacks, we will overcome them together, and I would like the patient to know that they are not alone in this journey in their recovery process.
I am originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia, and I went to undergrad, Longwood University, and grad school at the University of Tennessee, and then physician assistant school at Eastern Virginia Medical School. For fun, I like to run. I am currently training for the New York City Marathon, and my favorite marathon that I have run is part of the Dopey Challenge down in Disney World. So the Dopey Challenge includes a 5K, a 10K, a half-marathon and a full marathon in the span of four days, and you have the opportunity to run through the Disney parks, and then with the marathon, you get to run through all four of the Disney parks. So it's fun to see the characters out, so you hop out of the race and take pictures with them, and then you also get to dress up in fun costumes, and it's just a good time.
