Pakistan considers rice as one of its crucial crops. Our region's Basmati rice has gained global recognition. Most native Pakistanis like and widely use it. We should use modern techniques and methods to increase crop yield. Over time, the production technology for rice is continuously developing. We should follow the new norms to cope with the prevailing challenges of water shortage and climate change. Weather is directly proportional to the production of different crops.
Rice is one of the most important crops of Pakistan. Basmati rice of our region is renowned worldwide. It is also liked by most of the native community and vastly used in our beloved country Pakistan. We should use modern techniques and methods to increase the overall yield of the crop. Production technology of rice is evolving with the passage of time. We should follow the new norms to cope with the prevailing challenges of water shortage and climate change. Weather is directly proportional to the production of different crops.
Rice crop needs potash for stem stiffness and for the translocation of photosynthates especially during the booting and milking stage. Potash has become an expensive fertilizer and is more often beyond the reach of common farmers. In this video we have concluded that spray of Nia Potash of Syngenta or Katalyst of FMC can not serve the purpose when applied through spray. We have advised that spray of K Leaf of Jaffar agro services @ 2 kg just once or Potassium nitrate Speedfol K 10:10:40 of Swat agro @ 1 Kg/acre twice may serve the purpose.
Rice crop needs supplementary use of Potash with almost equal amount of nitrogen at bootin stage. In this video, we have advised the farmers to use 10-12 kg of soluble SOP along with 15-25 kg of urea at booting stage.
Appearance of empty panicles in rice crop may be due to White stem bore (Scirpophaga innotata), yellow stem borer (Scirpophaga incertulas) and pollen sterility due as a result of boron deficiency in rice crop. In this video, we have explained 8-10 different features of white heads and pollen sterility. White heads caused by borer appear earlier than normal earing or panicle emergence stage especially in the core area of rice zone. In addition to distinguishing features, we have also suggested the remedial measure of two cases. Granular pesticides viz. virtako (chlorantraniliprole+ thiamethoxom- Syngenta), Fertera- FMC (chlorantraniliprole), Referee-Kanzo (fipronil), Cartap and monomihypo of other companies have been suggested for borers and Bodox super (Swat Agro) for pollen sterility.
White stem bore (Scirpophaga innotata) and yellow stem borer (Scirpophaga incertulas) are considered as the most important insects of the rice crop especially in the core area of rice zone. Their damage is not so pronounced in the secondary areas of rice production from central to south Punjab. However, use of insecticides for the management of stem borers has become an integral part of rice production technology. Rice leaf folder Cnaphalocrosis medinalis is also a regular insect but its damage is variable depending upon climatic codition. In this video, we have evaluated comparative efficacy of virtako (chlorantraniliprole+ thiamethoxom- Syngenta), Fertera- FMC (chlorantraniliprole), Referee-Kanzo (fipronil), Cartap and monomihypo of other companies. Week and strong points of these insecticides have been highlighted so that farmers may select the best one according to the insect problems. We have advised to use best one at 25 days and 45-50 days after transplanting.
White head / pollen sterility is appearing as a new disease in Rice crop. This white head appearance is different from white head of borer attack. This occurs due to abiotic stress of high temperature at booting stage. Pollen sterility is the major cause of appearance of white heads. In this video, we have suggested the spray of boron at booting stage in rice.
