Yak 9U Long strategy against higher enemy

I was on a routine mission with my trusted Yak 9U when I realized there was a P38 surveying the battlefield from a great height. Everybody else was lower than me and yet ye had a good 4000' of altitude on me.
I began to descend to gather speed and to force him to descend if he wanted to get me.
That worked on his first pass where I nicked him with a MG bullet. However he regained height and exploited his superior speed to get distance.

I decided to descend and attacked a B 17 that had come to his rescue. This worked to entice him to descend on me.

I ran for my airfield to make him believe I was afraid of him and was trying to save myself. It worked: he came down at top speed and I avoided his pass, turning down and towards him as he missed me. At 1100' I shot in his direction and, amazingly took his wing off. :!
