During the 1960s–1980s, South Korea was rapidly developing and preparing to present itself as a modern nation to the world. In the city of Busan, a facility called Brother Home was officially promoted as a welfare shelter for the homeless and vulnerable. What was hidden behind its walls, however, was something far more horrifying.

Thousands of innocent people — including children, elderly citizens, people with disabilities, and ordinary civilians — were forcibly taken from the streets by police and imprisoned without trial. Inside Brother Home, detainees were stripped of their identities, assigned numbers, and subjected to forced labor, systematic torture, sexual abuse, starvation, and psychological terror.

Over 657 people died, and many bodies were never returned to families. Some were allegedly buried on-site, burned, or sold for medical experimentation. Children were exploited as slave labor, and newborn babies were taken and sold for overseas adoption.
