An apology letter is on its way to the Amsterdam School District courtesy of students at the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake District.On Tuesday members of the student body government organization, at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, wrote the letter apologizing for a derogatory slur that was chanted at Saturdays football game between the two schools.Part of the letter states ...these actions involving a few individuals are not representative of the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake student body as a whole. The letter was read at a press conference Tuesday by the student organization's President and varsity football player Sam Bartlett.Officials at the BH-BL district say the chant came from the student section of Saturdays homecoming football game. About 40-50 students were sitting in that section however, district officials believe only about 6-12 used the slur.Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School Principal, Timothy Brunson, said Tuesday a group of students have already come forward admitting to using the slur. An investigation into finding the other students is underway, Brunson added.Disciplinary action for the students involved could amount to as much as a five day suspension from school and losing the privilege to attend anymore BH-BL sporting events this year, Brunson said.No decisions have been made yet.
