Janelle Monáe's Live Vocal Range (C♯3 - G♯5 - A5)

Now, you guys know how disheartened I was when this video was blocked due to copyright issues. It was actually one of my favorite vocal range videos that I've ever done. But that gave me a great excuse to update the video and include more clips, especially with the release of her album, Dirty Computer. And it's finally done now, so if you guys were anticipating for this video to come back, then thank you for your patience.

Needless to say, from what had been showcased in the previous video, we all know Janelle is a hell of a vocalist, and a performer. She has a great and pretty refined technique, especially for a mainstream artist. Being a soprano, her lower range is actually very comfortable and full. She has great support in her mixed range and is able to resonate there. Her vibrato is even as well. Her head voice is sweet, and may have an operatic-like quality to it. She can probably take her head voice to above A5, but I couldn't find any example to demonstrate it. She can also do some nice riffs here and there, but she's definitely not the most complex riffer out there.

On top of everything vocally, MAN! Her showmanship and energy. She can really deliver top notch performances. Her vision and artistry is unique as well. She's definitely an amazing artist that you should totally check out.
