Itanagar Police Bust Major Inter-State Vehicle Theft Racket; 57 High-End Vehicles Recovered Worth ₹30.5 Crore

In a major breakthrough, the Itanagar Capital Police have busted a massive inter-state vehicle theft and smuggling racket, recovering 57 high-end stolen vehicles worth over ₹30.5 crore. Five key accused have been arrested so far, making it the single largest vehicle recovery by any police station in the country.

Based on credible intelligence, a suo-motu FIR (Ita PS Case No. 102/25) was registered, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted under the supervision of SP Capital, Jummar Basar, APPS. The SIT, led by SDPO Kengo Dirchi and supported by a dedicated team from Itanagar PS, launched the operation on 2nd July 2025.

Vehicles were recovered from various locations in and around the Itanagar
Capital Region. All recovered vehicles were found to be blacklisted in connection with theft and robbery cases reported across Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and other states. The details were uploaded on the e-Sakshya portal.

Toyota Fortuner – 09

Hyundai Creta – 27

Kia Seltos – 05

Tata Safari, Harrier, Innova, Audi, Ford Endeavour, and others


Modus Operandi:
The gang targeted luxury vehicles in NCR, tampered with engine/chassis numbers, forged documents, and smuggled them to Arunachal Pradesh for resale at reduced prices. Investigations hint at possible international money trails and digital links, which are under further probe.

Police teams continue to track more stolen vehicles and hunt for absconding members of the racket. The case is under active investigation.
