Описание к видео Chapul Farms MiniDoc - How Bug Poop Saves the World

If you share our vision for the future - one where we restore soil health and re-weave insects into our food system, please share this video. Our biggest competition is for capital and attention, which are more finite resources themselves these days.

Chapul Farms is committed to fixing our food system by building the infrastructure to work with nature (not against it) with modular. zero-waste insect facilities. Our team wants to save this planet instead of betting on Mars.

Our Series A is open to the public for investment. Chapulfarms.com/faq for more information.

In this video we take a peak into Chapul Farms’ modular insect farm units (this can scale up to address industrial organics waste).
If we have any interest in the future of our children's ability to get food out of that soil
we need more life in it.
the most addressable thing we can do to address climate change is just get that material out of landfills.
How can we take that material and funnel it into life?
So this is all pre-consumer food waste. It means all that food we cut up in kitchens before we prepare a meal.
and this stuff that we can't eat, it goes in the trash. We [Chapul Farms] pick it up from local restaurants.
but it [organics waste] can take the form of anything - the spent grains from brewing beer - there's all sorts
In the United States we have something like 100M tons of food waste that goes into landfills every year
so we collect it where we can, there's lots of different places - at the household level, our grocery stores, restraurants...
but that's [organics waste] all great food for the insects and a huge role they have to play - consuming this waste
otherwise we just dump into landfills. What we do with it, the next step is: let's let fungi do their work.so there's a fermentation step where they come and they break down some of that Lignocellulose structure
just make it more edible for the insects.
There's several different ways to manage this food waste that we have.
One is to dump it into a pile and have it produce a bunch of methane.
But, there's also other, better uses for that, so our role is: how can we take that material and funnel it into LIFE?
Let's get that into more life forms, more diversity of life, and so it should be eaten by insects, different microbes,
different bacteria, different fungi, mammals... how do we get [those nutrients] back into the food system
both for humans and the planet. Fostering more biodiversity as opposed to just throwing those nutrients...
...all of that energy - that life-sustaining material - just putting it all into a pile doesn't make that much sense.
This particular insect - the black soldier fly - doesn't eat in it's adult fly stage, so it's gotta hyper-accumulate
all of those nutrients so that it can basically store all of that energy for latter stages of life.
so it just tears through this material in a week to two weeks
and it can eat all of it [what we put in the trays], 100% of it, so this truly is a zero waste process.
Insects are the regenerative farmers of soil.
eat all that and they produce this really healthy, rich, microbial system in the frass.
everything - all those nutrients - pass through their gut microbiome. And inside of there is just entire galaxies
of microbial ecosystems. We're at the cusp of understanding just how influential microbiology is in the world around us.
So here's the flies. There's both male and female down there mating and laying their eggs. And we collect the eggs, just like you would a chicken.
But we harvest those eggs as layers. We take those eggs and give them a nursery feed at the next stage of life as they're a neonate

and then dump the neonates onto the waste, which is their food for the rest of their life.
This is what's left over from the food waste. And so when it goes back into the soil...
You know, this is how it's been done for the evolutionary history of the planet, as insects have eaten that material and then they've essentially
left this [frass] into the soil - all this organic material, but it's got all the life in it, from their [the insects'] microbiome
and then that life continues to do work in our soils to provide the nutrients that our plants need to grow and feed us

that's why we're based here, on this farm, to demonstrate the potential of it to really create a deeper foundation
to all civilizations... to agriculture. If we're looking at it from a longer-term lens, if we have any interest in
future of our children's ability to get food out of that soil, we need more life in it, and clearly we could use help.

And so nature is an excellent way to help us out at this ... status that we're at right now with our global soil health.

yes... frass!
