In this episode, I interview Mike Winship, owner of Winship Productions, a Charleston-based event design and wedding planning company that's been around for over 15 years. Today we cover the #1 thing Charleston brides need to stop doing while wedding planning.

Mike's thoughts:

"I advise them to stop watching the tv shows, stop reading the magazines and stop searching the web for misperceptions of what their wedding is supposed to look like.

Every wedding is different every bride is different. This is the most joyous day in your life and the biggest day in your life besides buying a couch, so why sweat the small stuff?

Ones world does not need to be turned upside down.

Couples go along living their lives, working and paying the rent, vacationing and going to events and all of the sudden he asks her to marry him and the entire world stops…which it should; for about ten minutes.

Everything seems to get turned upside down. For the girls especially, nonstop newly engaged couples hear nothing but, “Well have you…” “Well you need to…” Well we did…” Instead of just taking a step back and enjoying the moment.

The biggest thing you need to remember: EVERYTHING is going to work out and be okay! There’s a lot to be said about being involved in planning your own wedding."

So the number one thing you need to STOP doing right now while planning your wedding? Comparing your wedding day experience to what the media portrays or anyone else's. Your wedding day is as unique as you are, so stop comparing, stop competing, and plan YOUR wedding. And most importantly, Mike Winship’s philosophy for wedding planning: “Never lose site of the marriage while planning your wedding.”
