"Ünnepélyesen bejelentem, hogy az Országgyűlés által módosított alkotmány kihirdetésével a mai naptól, 1989. október 23-tól, országunk államformája és neve: Magyar Köztársaság."

Szűrös Mátyás ideiglenes köztársasági elnök 1989. október 23-án, az '56-os forradalom kezdete után 33 évvel jelentette be a harmadik köztársaság megalakulását. Érdekesség, hogy maga Szűrös 1951 és 1989 októbere közt a mindenkori állampárt tagja volt.

Mátyás Szűrös, Provisional President of the Republic, announced the birth of the Third Hungarian Republic on the 23rd of October, 1989; 33 years after the start of the Revolution of 1956. It is interesting to know that Szűrös himself was a member of the ruling party between 1951 and 1989.
