7.7.24 1:00am San Diego, CA. An underground rave was broken up by the CHP after some partygoers were seen crossing freeway ramps to access the event. The location of the event was in underground drainage tunnels that are part of state property in the Mt. Hope area. Some of the access was done from surface streets, however some chose to cross over freeway ramps and active lanes to come and go, which prompted the CHP to take action due to the danger.
The partygoers left without incident as CHP officers made access to the tunnel and ordered the DJs to shut down and pack up their equipment. By around 2:00am, the people were all dispersed and CHP left the scene. In speaking with the DJs, we learned that part of the reason the like locations like this is the high cost of renting a traditional venue.
The SD Slackers opinion is that having a place to hold ‘secret’ or ‘underground’ style parties is fine, but the party organizers should take special care that they are not putting their guests near the freeway because we’ve seen too many horrible things happen to pedestrians on the freeways.
