भारत की दक्षिण राज्य के तमिलनाडू के शहर मदुरै में स्थित मीनाक्षी टेंपल का इतिहास और वास्तुकला बिलकुल अद्भुत है. यह मंदिर वैगई नदी के तट पर स्थित है. यह वर्ल्ड की सबसे प्राचीन मंदिरों में से एक मानी जाती है. मंदिर की खूबसूरती देखते ही बनती है. हिंदू धर्म के पवित्र स्थानों में से एक है ये मंदिर. इसकी खूबसूरती अति मनोरम है. मिनाक्षी अम्मन मंदिर माता पावर्ती को समर्पित है. मीनाक्षी मंदीर के 4 द्वार हैं, जो कि 40 से 50 मीटर ऊंचा है. अपनी बनावट, इतिहास और धार्मिक मान्यताओं के अनुसार यह तमिलनाडु राज्य का सबसे मुख्य आकर्षण केंद्र है. यहां भक्त पूरे साल आते रहते हैं. इस मंदिर में हर साल अप्रैल माह में एक त्योहार मनाया जाता है, जो पूरे भारतवर्ष में फेमस है. इस त्योहार को मिनाक्षी थिरूकल्याणम कहा जाता है. इस दौरान मंदिर में काफी भीड़ देखने को मिलती है.
