I was talking to my friend in the record store when he pulled another vinyl out of the discount bin and froze.

“Oh no,” he muttered. “It’s that man again.”

He asked the owner what it was.

The owner barely looked up.
“Eric Blender. 1956 single — Eric Blender, Baby.”

Another customer nearby snorted.

“Wait… that title? That’s… real?”

The owner nodded.
“Oh, it’s real. And it’s a straight-up knock-off of Elvis Presley’s Heartbreak Hotel. Same slow, echo-soaked shuffle, same lonely vibe… except Eric’s singing about himself. Being ignored, misunderstood, and the world being unfair, all while repeating his name like a mantra.”

Musically, it copies Heartbreak Hotel almost note-for-note:

minimal backing, echo-heavy

dramatic pauses

notes dragged out far longer than they should be

Eric’s half-sung, half-grumbling vocals adding his own chaos

Eric is fat, mustache pristine, wearing a plaid suit that looks like it’s been slept in.
It’s less heartbreak and more… Eric refusing to leave a cheap motel.

The owner shook his head.
“People heard it and thought, ‘It’s like Heartbreak Hotel… but somehow worse.’”

Then he grinned.
“And the best part? At the very end of the song, he mumbles, almost completely deadpan:
‘Mmm… does Osaka pickle were good on that burger. And thank you very much… and hand me a napkin.’”

My friend burst out laughing.
“So the lonely, tragic crooner… ends with a comment about pickles and a napkin?”

The owner shrugged.
“That’s Eric Blender. Every moment is ridiculous, every note is his ego, and somehow it all works.”
