I recently featured Vallahir’s grand concept album, The Journey To Eight Peaks, and today I present the follow up, as our concluding album to this week’s Dungeon Synth Sunday.

This is the second album from this epic medieval fantasy DS adventuring project, from UK-based multi-instrumentalist and prolific artist, Thomas Khrul. The harpsichord driven opening pieces are son overcast by a gloomier pall – as the album title suggest, doom lurks in the depths of this album as it progresses towards dark and dangerous events….but is there a certain peril to how the story ends? Domenico Ferri - A Medieval Prison 1870

Domenico Ferri (1795-1878), was a Bolognese architect and artist who spent most of his active career in Paris.

Throughout the 1820s, Ferri produced set designs for Italian productions of operas by his friend Gioacchino Rossini. At Rossini’s suggestion, he was appointed in 1828 as a stage designer for the Théâtre Italien in Paris, which produced operas by Rossini and his younger contemporaries Vincenzo Bellini and Gaetano Donizetti. Few, if any, of Ferri’s original designs have survived, with just a catalogue of twelve lithographs saved at the Harvard Theatre Collection, acquired in 2010 from the Choix de decorations du Théâtre Royale Italien (Pais). These theatrical scene designs remain an important resource to students of scenography during the Golden Age of Italian opera.
