Days Gone is a 3rd-person action-adventure survival horror game developed by Bend Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PS4 and Microsoft Windows.

Released in April of 2019 for the PS4 (and later released for Windows in 2021), the game's setting takes place in the state of Oregon, two years after a global pandemic. It's a post-apocalyptic open-world adventure in which the main protagonist, Deacon St. John goes on a quest in search of his wife, whom he becomes separated from during the game's prologue.

During the opening sequence, we meet his longtime friend Boozer who along with Deacon are drifters who earn a living as bounty hunters. Along the way, we will meet several other characters who will become integral to the story in either major or minor roles. As with most other open-world games these days, there will be plenty of locations to discover, items to craft, collectibles to find, trophies to earn and enemies to kill. In this case, the enemies come in two basic flavors - hostile humans and zombie-like infected creatures known as "Freakers", who want nothing more than to take a bite out of Deacon and his pals.

The game features a bevy of different weapons, including an assortment of pistols, rifles and bows, as well as improvised weapons that the gamer can craft. Story missions can be completed by using stealth mechanics, going in guns-a-blazing, or some combination of both.

The game was received with mixed reviews. And while for many, the story, combat and fun-factor was quite good, it seems the major complaints centered around a lack of character development, control issues, as well as bugs and glitches that were later ironed out.

If you start the game on either easy or normal difficulty, you can later change it in the options menu. However, if you choose the hard difficulty setting, you'll be stuck with it unless you start the game over. Not sure why the developers chose to go this route, but it's their game, right?
