Customize Six Ring Binder
1. Take your binder and remove the rings from it. You can do this by using a pair of pliers or tweezers to grip each ring tightly, then pulling them apart with force until they come loose. Once you have removed all six rings, lay them flat on a surface and use a ruler to measure their width and height. This will give you an idea of how much space you'll need for your journal pages. If you're planning to add extra blank pages to your journals later (as I recommend), make sure that you have enough room in the binder for those additional pages as well.
2. Cut out two pieces of cardboard or foam board that are slightly larger than the top and bottom covers of your binder. These will be used as the back and front panels of your custom journal notebook cover. Cut them to size so that they fit snugly over the rings of your binder.
3. Fold the cardboard or foam board into triangles. To do this, place one piece of material on top of another, with the folded edges aligned along the centerline. Then, fold both sides down towards the middle, creating a triangle shape. Repeat this process with the other side of the material.
4. Glue the triangles onto the back panel of your binder. Use double-sided tape to secure the corners of the triangles to the back panel of your binder. Make sure that the tape is applied evenly across the entire area where the triangles meet the back panel.
5. Apply glue to the front panel of your binder. Place the second piece of cardboard or foam board on top of the first, with the folded edges lining up at the centerline. Spread some glue along the center line, making sure to cover the whole area where the two materials meet. Hold the two pieces together firmly for a few seconds, then gently press them against each other to create a smooth join. Continue spreading glue along the rest of the front panel, working your way around the edge of the binder. When you reach the end points, make sure to overlap the glued sections by about 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) to allow for any expansion that may occur during drying.
