The new 'Tangping' movement seems to indicate that China's competitive, hardworking rat-race of Chinese is coming to an end? In this video, I explain the 9-9-6 work ethic of Chinese workforce, and how society and people are reacting to the generation-Z that is seeking a better life-work balance. I conclude to say that this is not the end of China's competitiveness, but the start of China's creative spirit - which will make them even more competitive.

Netizens call them losers who are rich enough to afford doing nothing; families are stressed out as they feel their kids are giving up and taking advantage of the hard work of the parents; the government does of course want Chinese to keep working hard in the context of geopolitical competities and opportunity. The West however looks at it as a movement, more than a change of people, which it is not. The Western media talks about China giving up and government losing control, which is incorrect.

It does not mean that China not slowing down as the backlog of hard workers is still enormous in China; it does mean that China is changing for the better as the young people are seeking a better life-work balance and enjoy creativity and exploration more.

This is not a yin-yang flower power like movement where people are bailing out, but rather a reincarnation of some Chinese workers, who like a phoenix are reinventing China to become more creative. There is still a dragon alive in China that will be there for 30 years to try and outcompete the West. Therefore tangping movement is actually a great change in China, with little risk of derailing their economic drive.
