Small businesses need help now more than ever. Rent has the ability to put a small businesses under especially with expectations to pay 100% of rent for 100% of a space businesses are severely limited in using. Melissa Bow, the owner of Via Gelato, Chamber of Commerce and the Hawaii Restaurant Association, have been advocating for rent relief, rent forgiveness and access to public outdoor spaces to help protect small businesses and give them a fighting chance at survival.

Coffee Talk is an iconic neighborhood coffee shop that has been operating in Kaimuki for 25 YEARS. For 25 years, they have always paid rent on time and in full; it’s not their fault they don’t have the income to do that now. It’s not like they are going to suddenly make back all the money later on to pay back rent in full. This is a situation that many business owners are privately facing on top of everything else. Their livelihood and everyone tied to them - farmers, vendors, drivers, customers, folks needing a place to study, folks needing a place for a first date, and neighboring shops that rely on a community of other neighborhood shops - we are ALL affected.

There is a solution and proposal already in the City Council and it needs our voice. We need to let the council members, the Mayor, our State reps and the Governor know, “yes this MATTERS to us!” To support local businesses or to share you local small business story, PLEASE PLEASE fill out the form and share with everyone!
