Dr. Ming Lim ~ Treatment and Best Outcomes for Pediatric Autoimmune Encephalitis

Dr. Ming Lim is considered to be one of the finest Pediatric Neurologists in the field of autoimmune encephalitis by his colleagues. We are honored to have him present in our Speakers Series in recognition of AE Awareness Month.
Early treatment and best outcomes for autoimmune encephalitis in children is a topic that is widely ignored. Focus is usually centered on a specific type of AE. Dr. Lim will be presenting on published data and research that is currently in press on the topic.
“The overriding message is that we need to recognize this condition early and begin treatment right away. Treating it early and escalating as quickly as possible gives you a better outcome.”
Despite the grave condition of most patients, only half receive immunotherapy within 30 days of symptom onset. This lag, Dr. Lim says, is likely related to the delay in diagnosis.
Ming Lim undertook his undergraduate medical training at the University of Nottingham, UK. Following completing his pediatric neurology training in South London, and a period of doctoral research in the neuroscience department of the Institute of Psychiatry (London), he was appointed as Consultant Pediatric Neurologist at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital; and is a Reader in Pediatric Neurology within Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine, King’s College London. He has a major interest in childhood inflammatory disorders and runs the regional pediatric brain and spine inflammation service. He works collaboratively with the Oxford Clinical Neurosciences Group on numerous studies to define childhood central nervous system autoimmune disorders. In addition, he also has a research interest in the inflammatory mechanisms in childhood onset neurodegenerative disorders.
