Did you know that gender-diverse companies are 25% more likely to achieve above-average profitability? This March, we celebrated Women's History Month and Women in Construction Week by highlighting the incredible contributions of women in our industry, both past and present—recognizing the unique talents and perspectives that bring value to projects and teams. As Holly Brenner, SVP at C.D. Smith, aptly put it, "Diversity isn't just an ideal—it's a competitive advantage."

A LEGACY OF PIONEERS

In 1632, Elizabeth Wilbraham became one of the first women architects, drawing her own designs at a time when female architects were unheard of. Fast forward to 1872, and Emily Roebling stepped in to supervise the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge when her husband fell ill, proving that women could excel in roles of significant responsibility and technical skill. By 1898, Julia Morgan had not only graduated with a degree in civil engineering but also became an architect and construction supervisor for the Hearst Castle. In 1927, Elsie Eaves blazed a trail as a project manager, pioneering data collection and tracking spending trends on construction projects.

These stories aren't just historical highlights. They're a reminder of the talent and dedication needed to drive our industry forward, and we continue to build upon their efforts.
