The Menorah is a seven branched candle stand, which stood in Solomon's Temple and burned day and night before the Holy of Holies, where the Ark of the Covenant was kept.

The seven branches represent the seven days of creation: in six days God created the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day (the Sabbath) he rested. The middle branch of the Menorah represents the Sabbath, the day of rest and worship, set apart for God alone. The burning light of the Menorah represents God's presence for his people, just as he accompanied Israel through the desert journey from Egypt to the Promised Land, in the form of a fiery pillar, or as he appeared to Moses in the burning bush: take off your sandals, for this is Holy Ground.
