Welcome back to the channel on today’s video. I’m gonna be installing a hot water tap so the customer can wash their dogs with lovely warm water, especially in the winter. 

When installing a hot water tap the feed needs to be blended this means that the hot water is mixing with the cold and that will prevent scold in the valves preset to around 30 to 35°. It has a little temperature control knob on it.

I’m gonna drill the hole from outside in and that will help prevent blowing any of the render on the outside. I’m not gonna be installing the tap next to the cold original tap but while we’re here, we’re gonna be replacing it so they both look the same and give it a bit of an upgrade.

After drilling the hole I can then isolate and remove the old tap a quick read drill as a old drill was not straight and in certain the new standpipe being tipped up to avoid corrosion with concrete and sealed up using some express cement which is basically cement in a silicon tube.

After installing both of the tap stems we’re gonna be making in the outside taps themselves and I’m gonna be using a product which is a thread sealer the products called gripaloc from xpro. This is basically a liquid form of PTFE tape. You don’t really need to tighten it up as long as you’re winding it in most of the way you’re able to leave it and it can go off so you can get it perfectly in the right position, but it is always best to try and do it up with a little nip from a spanner. The thread sealant works off zero oxygen so once it is wound into place, you don’t wanna be moving it as it’s already setting and could cause a seal to crack.

The pipework underneath the kitchen sink is all down with plastic pipes which as you know I don’t really like but I’m gonna do my best to tidying them up so with the water shut off I’m able to disconnect some pipework and start piping up from the outside taps and a small cut out of the unit, which I made. The previous tap was just pushed together with a plastic elbow, so I disconnected that one put a new one on and pushed it back on.

With a cold side quickly done it’s time to bring the hot water feed through the unit into the blending valve and then from the blending valve back to the kitchen sink plumbing I’m gonna be installed in two isolation valves and also a isolation valve for the kitchen sink tap. I’m using flat face isolation valves for the sink tap Flexi hoses as this will give the best connection from a flat face with the rubber washer. You don’t want to be putting the straight onto an isolation valve which has a nut and olive connection as it can be sharp and cause the Rubber to cut into.

On this video, I’m gonna be using my press gun so that is a Ridgid 251 And the fittings I’m using are from a company called Viega. These press fittings are the best in the world. Viega Are the biggest breast company in all America and Europe and I’m slowly trying to bring them to the UK as our fittings are generally bought from China.

Some places are hard to reach with the press gun and that is why I’m using some angled press jaws from Viega they’re very handy with horizontal joints as it my instance if I didn’t have them, I would have to place the Presco and halfway in the unit. I found myself sometimes getting ahead of myself and not thinking and find myself using my angled jaw set a lot more.

With everything or Pressed up and valves fully tight we could turn the water on and give it a good test. The cold water is cold and the water coming from the hot tap is perfectly blended at around 33 to 35° which means that we can put one of your fluffy companions underneath and give him a nice warm shower or bath after he’s had a good mucky walk!
