How to signal trace audio gear | Tascam 424 MKIII | Part 5 |

How to signal trace a mixer using a signal generator, audio probe and guitar amp.
(Portastudio Repair Vlog 1.5)

In this video i inspect the contacts of the mixer PCB from a Tascam Portastudio 424 Mkiii which I previously established does not pass a signal through channel 2.

I look for dry or broken joints, but can’t find any,so I feed a sine wave into problem channel using a cable tester which produces a sine wave; I pick this signal up using a cheap homemade audio probe feeding into a guitar practice amp. I use this procedure to figure out how far the signal is getting through that channel, which gives me a better idea of which components to inspect/mend/replace once the mixer is removed from the plastic casing.

About this series of vlogs - I buy untested Tascam Portastudios from Ebay, Craiglist, etc, test them, demonstrating the functionality as I go, doing any repairs necessary, and eventually recording a song on the refurbished multitrack cassette recorder.
