Hollywood Mysteries #23 - Douglas Fairbanks, The Lavish King of Hollywood

Douglas Fairbanks is often remembered today as a swashbuckler in early silent films such as Robin Hood and The Thief of Bagdad. But he was much more than that in his prime. In fact he was considered to be the closest thing the United States had to a king.

With his 'queen' Mary Pickford, the Fairbanks hosted some of the most lavish and star-studded parties in history. But it seems that during one of them, a dark incident may have taken place. And if it did, a strange and unsettling reminder of it stalked the famous mansion for decades.

Aside from that, Fairbanks was an incredible innovator. He owned his own studio, wrote his own scripts, made huge technical innovations and founded the first charity to help struggling actors to survive the harsh realities of Hollywood.

His early passing and failure to thrive in the sound era denied us more time with one of the most important figures in Hollywood history.

So, settle in for another Hollywood Mystery, with the Film Noir mood of rain on a deserted L.A. sidewalk, deep into the night, as always.
