Trains Around Tucson, AZ April 2022

In April, 2022 I visited Tucson to attend a conference at the University of Arizona and managed to do a bit of railfanning while I was there.

0:00 - A westbound manifest with Kansas City Southern and CSX power comes around the curve at the Joiner Road crossing in northwest Tucson. Norfolk Southern power provides DPU service.
3:44 - A westbound intermodal screams through the Joiner Road crossing
6:11 - Later in the day a monster intermodal heading west slowly makes its way toward the Tucson yard. The headend power was filmed at the southeast end of the yard, while the mid-train DPUs were filmed at the Ajo Way crossing about a mile down the road
8:05 - SD70ACe 8445 lays on the horn for the Irvington Road grade crossing. In the background is the Tucson Electric power plant. The imposing mountains of Mt. Lemmon and Mt. Kimball made for some amazing "going away" shots!
10:30 - Late at night, an eastbound intermodal rolls by the Tucson Amtrak station and shortly comes to a stop to let a westbound train pass. It can be heard for miles as it blows its horns for the many grade crossings in downtown.
13:08 - With not much time to react on my end, the westbound intermodal that the previous train stopped for screeches by.
14:55 - Running nearly 2 hours late, Amtrak train number 1, the Westbound Sunset Limited, finally pulls into the station. While it performs its station stop and refuels, an eastbound autotrain rolls by on the opposite track. Shoutout to the awesome station master who let me come onto the platform to film the departure!
17:46 - The following morning. UP C&NW heritage unit 1995 slowly gets an eastbound manifest moving out of the hole after receiving a green signal. Just as it rolls by the camera, a westbound intermodal rolls by. Note the former Rock Island railroad hopper car at 21:26!
25:26 - At Cortaro Road in the neighborhood of Marana, Amtrak train 2, the eastbound Sunset Limited, speeds past as it races toward Tucson running about 90 minutes late
