The Church of St. Anne in Jerusalem is one of the most sacred Christian sites in the Old City. According to tradition, it marks the birthplace of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus. The church stands near the ancient Pools of Bethesda, where Jesus later performed a miracle of healing.

Built in the 12th century by the Crusaders, the Church of St. Anne is remarkably well-preserved and is renowned for its simple yet powerful Romanesque architecture and extraordinary acoustics. Pilgrims from around the world come here to honor the memory of Saint Anne and Saint Joachim, the parents of Mary, and to venerate the holy site where Mary was born.

For Catholics, this church is not only a historical monument but also a profound place of prayer, linking the mystery of Mary’s birth with the unfolding of salvation history in Jerusalem.
