A fresh political controversy has erupted in West Bengal as Janata Unnayan Party chief Humayun Kabir announced the construction of a new “Babri Masjid” in Murshidabad, with the foundation stone scheduled to be laid on February 11, 2026. Around 5,000 people are expected to attend the ceremony in Beldanga following a morning Quran recitation.

Kabir’s announcement comes weeks after he was suspended from the Trinamool Congress for a similar plan last December 6, the anniversary of the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition. After the suspension, Kabir launched his own party, announced his intention to contest the upcoming assembly elections, and criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
