Since losing her grandmother to antibiotic resistance in 2019, Pinyu Liao has worked extensively in antibiotic resistance, including advocacy towards proper antibiotic usage with her documentary, “The Quest to Stop Antibiotic Resistance,” which was recognized by the World Health Organization, AMR Action Fund, and The Seattle Times. She is passionate about antibiotic resistance, and hopes to advocate for the role of the public in stopping the antibiotic resistance crisis through her TEDxStanford talk. Pinyu Liao is a scientist, blogger, and advocate for proper antibiotic stewardship and global health. Since losing her grandmother to a bacterial infection in 2019, she has worked on several initiatives to make a change in the antibiotic resistance crisis, from advocacy towards proper antibiotic usage with her documentary, “The Quest to Stop Antibiotic Resistance,” which was recognized by the World Health Organization, to researching antibiotic resistance using computational biology. As a first-generation immigrant, she is also passionate about STEM educational outreach through founding the blog, Lavender + Lab Coats, a website dedicated to sharing her journey as an aspiring biomedical scientist.
