Many employees now consider health care benefits to be the single most important employee benefit. However, for employers, offering employees a comprehensive health benefits package can be costly, leading employers to consistently look for avenues to save on health care spending. Representatives from the Alliance for Patient Access (AfPA) and Aimed Alliance will share data from their 2023 survey on how employers manage employee well-being and health benefits.

Attendees will learn how employers view and use international importation, patient assistance programs, copay assistance programs, and other alternative funding sources to manage health benefits and reduce prescription drug spending, and the impact these practices have on employee coverage.

For the majority of individuals with employer-sponsored health benefits, satisfaction with their health care coverage is a major factor in deciding whether to stay with their current employer. This can be especially true for employees with chronic conditions and those who care for others with chronic conditions, as strong health benefits can be crucial for affording care and/or specialized treatments that may be prescribed by a health care provider. However, this type of comprehensive coverage and care can be costly for employers. As a result, some employer-sponsored health plans have taken cost containment measures that can have significant impacts on some employees, such as using “alternative funding programs” to remove or limit insurance coverage for specialty drugs and secure alternative sources to procure or fund such treatments. These cost-containment measures can also raise internal concerns with compliance and legal teams.

During this one-hour webinar, speakers will review the 2023 survey findings, educate HR professionals on the risks plans face when partnering with third-party companies that develop alternative funding programs, and explain the impact these programs may have on your workforce. Presenters will also review how comprehensive health benefits help employees prioritize their health while missing fewer days of work due to health-related reasons. They will provide key recommendations as to what employers can do to avoid these programs, reduce their costs, and ensure employee well-being is maintained.
