The new BMW R 1250 R 2019 - BMW R 1250 R 2019 revealed

Unchanged in aesthetics, the R 1250 R is now equipped with the new 1250 cc boxer: more power, more torque and easier to manage, perfect complement to the German roadster, suitable for walking with friends as well as for solitary getaways on mixed terrain.

New 1250 boxer, liquid cooling, variable timing, 136 hp: this is the business card of the new BMW R 1250 R in two words. There are also many other innovations, for example the four versions - basic, elegant, super-equipped and sporty - the TFT color dashboard, and obviously the usual series of electronic systems and the infinite range of accessories, in the classic style of the House of Monaco, are not missing.

The engine is exactly what fascinated us from the beginning, in this first taste test of the massive German roadster, which we drove on the winding roads of Chianti. Many curves, difficult to find a straight in this area, from the asphalt also wet from the only rain that has fallen in these last months. Therefore: Rain map, the most prudent one, which in our case (we have a full optional motorcycle available) offers maximum safety thanks to the DTC dynamic traction control (Dynamic Traction Control, which also works with inclined motion), to ABS Pro (with cornering function), to the dynamic braking assistant DBC (Dynamic Brake Control, which works even in the most critical situations preventing an inappropriate accelerator action during braking). Make a mistake? Of course, it can, but with such a set up bike it becomes challenging ...

Among the (few) aesthetic innovations the new and large Connectivity dashboard shines: the colors have arrived on board the R 1250 R, thanks to the satin 6.5 TFT visor. Behind, of course, there is a nice amount of features: in addition to all the information on the on-board computer, you can access the electronics, which controls the bike and connectivity.

The R 1250 R is available in four versions: base (all black, 14,950 euros with 4-year warranty); the elegant Exclusive (matt anthracite, steel band on the tank, gold anodized front brake calipers, steel side panels, gray frame, dedicated rims, +500 euros); Option 719, for those who are passionate about customization (here, in addition to the components of the Exclusive, there is the tank of an elegant metallic brown, +990 euros). Finally, for sports enthusiasts there is the HP, in the classic BMW Motorsport coloring and with the front spoiler; in addition the dashboard offers the tasty Sport mode, which shows the angle of bend and the intensity of the deceleration and the intervention of the traction.

Of note is the availability of the fine milled components of the Option 719 Classic and HP series. Finally, among the optionals we mention the Dynamic ESA Next Generation electronic suspension system (with automatic trim correction based on load conditions), the new optional sports handlebar for a more dynamic driving position. Could miss the Akrapovic special exhaust? No, here it is, in fact, beautifully solid and well finished, with a powerful but civil sound, which adds a touch of sportiness that does not hurt at all, both in acceleration and release, with the classic crackles.
