TRANSFORMERS G1 SHOCKWAVE “Reissue” Knock-Off Review

Transformers series 2 introduced Shockwave, the Decepticon Military Operations Commander. Though he did appear in the very first cartoon episode, as the one who stayed behind to guard Cybertron. In the comics, he did not appear until issue 4. But he was and still is a popular character and toy. This G1 “reissue” is a counterfeit, and Captain Kyle examines it to see if it would fit into your collection.

G1 Shockwave was introduced as the Decepticon foil to the Autobot Air Guardian, Jetfire. Not that the show or the comics depicted it that way. In the cartoon, Shockwave was the ultra-loyal Decepticon who watched over Cybertron for 4 million years at the order of his glorious leader, Megatron. In the comics, he coldly took over the Decepticons as leader after being reawakened in the Savage Land by an Autobot probe. Fun fact, he actually built Jetfire and intended to use the captured Creation Matrix to bring him life as a Decepticon. But Optimus Prime foiled that plan and was able to give him the moral compass to become an Autobot. So, he had very different storylines and personalities. This “reissue” version of Shockwave depicted the Generation One Series 2 release of the toy, though there were other versions of this toy on the market, including Galactic Man and “Shackwave.” And with a 9-volt battery, he had lights and sound!
