After a long day of fighting on September 19, 1863, the Union high command of Rosecrans, Thomas, McCook and Crittenden met for a counsel of war and decide to stay on the field, taking defensive positions to preserve their route back to Chattanooga. Miscommunication and confusion within the Confederate ranks sets up a hectic start to the third day's fighting at Chickamauga. Jim Ogden of the National Park Service gives a full rundown of the morning's events.
