Desmia funeralis, is found in the following regions:
Eastern United States: From North Dakota to Texas, and eastward to the Atlantic coast
Canada: From British Columbia to Prince Edward Island
Western United States: In New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and California. Grape leaffolders are commonly found in habitats that support native grapes and Virginia Creeper. They can be found in forests, forest edges, vineyards, parks, and suburban yards. Grape leaffolders have four life stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. They overwinter as pupae in folded and fallen leaves. In the spring, the moths emerge and lay their eggs on grape leaves. The larvae develop through five increasingly larger instars.
In Florida, grape leaffolders can cause substantial damage to grape leaves in September and October. Excessive defoliation can reduce the size of the next crop.
