"This car is aiming for three things. One is safety and environment and personal mobility and for accident, each i-unit communicates each other so they don't crash each other. And for environment, we are suggesting single seat passenger car because in many cases, drivers drive alone and its wasting gas and causing traffic jam. So i-unit is single passenger car but can be connected to each other when you want."

"Now I call him Paro, but if you give new name and call it again and again, Paro gradually learns a new name and will start to respond, so Paro has a learning function. Also Paro has touch-like sensors on the whole body, so if I stroke Paro, Paro feels good. And Paro tried to be stroked by the owner and so Paro learn that good behaviors for the owner, so Paro changes his character though learning."

LEADIN
A miniature humanoid machine, a robotic baby seal, and a transformer car all were unveiled at the Japan Society in New York on Wednesday (6 June).
But the new inventions come at a price - the baby seals will soon go on sale in the United States for around $3,000.
STORYLINE
Built in 2004 by Japanese inventor Tomotaka Takahashi, the Chroino robot is barely over one foot tall and weighs less than three pounds.
It utilizes a technology called SHIN-Walk, which makes its movements look more natural, unlike traditional stiff walking robots.
Takahashi also showcased a "sexy" female robot named FT, which took him 13 months to complete.
The FT model is meant to walk like a woman, and even can perform a fashion model runway-like walk.
Both the FT and the Chroino robots are prototypes and aren't for sale yet.
The Japanese car company Toyota has invented a futuristic vehicle called the i-unit, which was also demonstrated at the Japan Society.
The single-person car is meant to transition between outdoors on the street and inside a home. It can transform from an upright position whilst being ridden slowly to a reclined position when moving at faster speeds.
I-unit runs mostly on an electric motor but also can run on petrol, if travelling longer distances.
Toyota engineer, Hiroshi Hashimoto, said the vehicle employs a wireless communication system, so the i-units are aware when another i-unit is near them. Hashimoto says in the future this technology could lead to the end of traffic signals.
Toyota says i-unit is a concept car-- they only made 50 of them and there are no immediate plans to bring it to market. But Hashimoto says they do intend to use some of the technology from i-unit for cars Toyota is making now.
An incredibly life-like robotic baby seal was also a big hit among the demonstrations.
