Book of week || Punjabi Bat-Chet ||By || Shardha Ram Phillauri ||

This book was specifically written to help the British understand the local dialect. It may have been the first book transliterated into Roman script from Gurmukhi script. The study of this was a requirement for admission into the administrative services. The book is taught to this day at schools affiliated with the Punjab State Education Board Mohali.
Our first Guest Reviewer is Dr Charanjit Kaur Mann. She did her PhD from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. She is working as Associate Professor in History at Amardeep Singh Shergill Memorial University College, Mukandpur (Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar). She has extensively published on Punjabi Diaspora, Sikh Diaspora, Dalit Literature, Morality and ethics in Higher Education, Islamic Tradition and Culture in Countryside Punjab and religious Sikh movements. Her two books have published in which one is ‘Indian Punjab with Global Links: A Case Study of Shankar Village’, primarily this book based on her PhD work.
Our Second Guest Reviewer Gurdas Dhadwal is a solicitor in the UK specializing in property law. With his knowledge and qualification in Punjabi, he has taught Punjabi at the Gurdwara. He has a keen interest in Punjabi history and culture. He pursued his interest in Indology Studies by completing his dissertation through his Law degree. The project was on Indian inheritance laws, titled “Rights of Inheritance: A comparative Study of succession law in England, Ireland and India”. In his spare time, he actively researches topics on Punjabi culture and history.
Our third Guest Reviewer Khalid Farhad Dhariwal is a young short story writer and translator. His famous Books are “Vatandra” (short stories), and “Mohan Das ty Ody Parkash” (translation of Hindi novel). He is also editor of online Punjabi Magazine “Neel Kanth”. He has been honoured with various awards including “Khadar Posh Award” and “Pakistan Writer Guilds Award”. He is an expert of many languages and has translated many books from Hindi, Persian, Urdu, English and Sindhi into Punjabi. He is also a member of Afro-Asian Writers Union and Progressive Writers Association, Punjabi Adabi Sangat Lahore, Punjabi Sahet Academy Ludhiana, World Punjabi Congress Lahore, World Author Catalogue, and advisory member of Punjabi literary magazine “Mehkan” Sahiwal.
