Diseases of the Eye Lens
The lens helps focus light on the retina. When it is affected, vision becomes blurred or distorted. The main lens diseases are:
1. Cataract
Most common lens disease
Lens becomes cloudy
Causes: Aging, diabetes, injury, UV radiation, smoking
Symptoms: Blurred vision, glare, difficulty seeing at night
Treatment: Cataract surgery
2. Aphakia
Absence of the lens (after surgery or injury)
Symptoms: Severe hypermetropia, blurred vision

3. Pseudophakia

4. Ectopia Lentis

5. Presbyopia
Age-related loss of lens elasticity
Difficulty seeing near objects
Correction: Reading glasses
6. Congenital Lens Defects
Present at birth (e.g., congenital cataract)
Can cause vision loss in children if untreated
