Описание к видео Wildlife Photographer Thomas D. Mangelsen | Interview

From February to June 2019, the Chicago Academy of Sciences / Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum was proud to be a venue for the exhibit A Life in the Wild: The Photography of Thomas D. Mangelsen. We were fortunate enough to welcome Mangelsen himself to the Nature Museum on March 9, 2019 for a lecture and book signing. During his visit, we sat down with him to ask him about his connection with animals and nature, how others react to this incredible photography, and the future.

One of the most renowned American nature photographers, Mangelsen has traveled the world for nearly 50 years, observing and photographing the Earth’s last great wild places. From rare moments and vast panoramas, Mangelsen’s extensive portfolio includes millions of images of wild animals and landscapes, from polar bears in the Arctic to tigers in India.

Mangelsen was named the 2011 Conservation Photographer of the Year by Nature's Best Photography, placing his work in the permanent collection at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. His work has been exhibited internationally and has appeared in several publications including National Geographic, BBC Wildlife, Life, Audubon, National Wildlife, Smithsonian, Natural History and Newsweek. In addition, Mangelsen is co-founder of The Cougar Fund, a founding Fellow of The International League of Conservation Photographers, on the international advisory council for the Jane Goodall Institute and a board ambassador for the Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance.

A Life in the Wild showcases 40 of Mangelsen’s signature, award-winning photographs of wildlife and landscape on all seven continents. Every image was captured by Mangelsen under natural conditions and involves no digital manipulation, demonstrating his sensitivity to animal behavior and masterful skill in waiting for the “picture perfect moment” often in the face of hostile environmental conditions.

A Life in the Wild: The Photography of Thomas D. Mangelsen is produced by David J. Wagner, L.L.C. (davidjwagnerllc.com) in partnership with Thomas D. Mangelsen, Inc. (mangelsen.com).
