People can’t clearly explain how "Laoye" exists or works, yet they feel its presence in their hearts—and that feeling is very real. "Better to believe it exists than not to"—this moderate stance is why most Chaoshan people don’t resist "worshipping Laoye". Many children, raised on rational, atheist education like "Marxism" and "the Scientific Outlook on Development", feel confused by these elaborate rituals. They may be indifferent to, misunderstand, even deny or question their elders’ practices. But once they leave home, they grow to value "Laoye" and eagerly rush back for the "Ying Laoye" (parade of deities) festival. To me, this reflects the power of faith and unity that Chaoshan’s deity-worshipping culture sows in children’s hearts from an early age
