The time has finally come.. we are sharing videos from our home state of Alaska!
After driving from Anchorage to the Kenai Peninsula, we arrived in Homer for a long weekend. We visited early in the season (late May), so we were able to see the Homer spit and local area come to life.
We decided to book a water taxi and head out across the bay to Kachemak Bay state park! The water taxi is the only way of reaching this state park and the hiking trails, as there are no roads. After being dropped off on the shore, we headed out on a 5 mile through hike. This was a pretty easy hike with great payoff! We were able to hike right up to Grewingk Glacier lake and admire the glacier and icebergs floating in the lake.
After we arrived back in Homer, we explored the Homer Spit, which is a strip of land jutting out into the bay. Shops, restaurants, and outfitters line the street and you can find anything you could want, from souvenirs to fish and chips! Which is exactly what we were going for - halibut fish and chips! Homer is known as the halibut capitol of the world, so we HAD to try some while we were there. It was so good!
