You might have probably been in a situation where you have to pause for a while and think of what you’re going to say next, right? And there are times that when you are not sure what to say, you kind of need a few seconds to think of the right word or a few seconds to plan your next sentence, right? Well luckily, there are many phrases in English for delaying and I’ll share them with you in this video.

Some English phrases that you can use when you are not sure what to say and you kind of need some time to think:
• Let me see/think…
A very common expression that you would hear most of the time when someone is trying to think for a moment before that person gives a response.

• As far as I know…
This is a very useful term. You say this when you are not sure of the statement you are about to make or you think something is true but maybe there are still some things that we don’t know or remember, etc...

• How shall I put it?
The speaker knows what to say but wants to organize the words to make them less unpleasant or less rude to the listener. It’s another way to say What is the best way to tell you this?

• If my memory serves me (well/right/correctly)
Used for saying that you think you have remembered something correctly

• That’s a good question!
People say this when someone asks a question that's a little difficult to answer. Saying "That's a good question" gives you a little more time to think of your response. But it might also sound impolite if you use this expression in the classroom when your teacher asks you a hard question. So, we normally use it when we’re talking casually.

These are some expressions that you can use when you are not sure what to say or when you think of a response to the person you’re talking to.
